Thomas Sowards and brother-in-law Jeptha Massey settled at Turkey Grove in Powells Valley (Lee County, Virginia), they moved on account of Indian wars.57
Owned the land on the opposite side of the Greenbrier River at Talcott, the Chatting and Bacon Farms, the patent bearing date Aug 15, 1794 was issued by Henry Lee, then governor of Virginia. Jeptha and his wife moved from the eastern shore of Maryland to Keezletown, Virginia, and from there to Greenbrier County and from there to lands noted above.57 |
